So you have to keep trying several times to play the album you want to hear. My only complaint and question here is that UAPP would be perfect EXCEPT FOR its on-screen navigation with the Shield's remote - you just can't see where you are half the time because the item that is selected, in a list of albums, say, is not highlighted. UAPP recognizes the DAC when I turn the Shield on, and the DAC completely bypasses the Shield's DAC or the Shield's sound software or whatever. USB Audio Player Pro is the software I use to listen to DSD files (and many other things). The DAC is the hardware I use to listen to, say, DSD files. I have a great new DAC (the RME ADI-2 DAC FS) USB-plugged into the Shield. The big TV is HDMI-connected to the Shield. My Shield is ethernet connected (hard-wired) to my router, I don't do wifi. (2) the other thing I want is that when I listen to hi-rez FLAC and DSD music files that are on an SSD that is USB-plugged into my Shield, I want to hear them in hi-rez.

Since the Shield has no analog connectors, I must use a DAC to get sound from the Shield into my analog receiver. The Shield is the source (via hard-wired internet connectivity) of all my TV viewing. (1) I don't want to hear anything through the TV speakers, I want to hear everything through my analog, 2-channel, old-school, room sound system (vintage Marantz receiver, floor speakers etc.). The short answer to your question is, I think, yes.
